Park City main street area plan
Happy Cities developed a plan to transform Main Street into a vibrant community hub that welcomes locals and international tourists alike.

Park City is an international ski destination with a beautiful historic Main Street, which will host the 2034 Olympics. Main Street faces challenges. Visitor numbers are dropping, as they are choosing to visit other nearby destinations and ski resorts instead. The street itself does not provide a comfortable walking experience for residents or visitors, with narrow sidewalks that make it hard to navigate and linger. Despite these challenges, the street also has incredible strengths—it sits along rows of beautiful heritage buildings and a diverse community, and is home to some of the most valuable land in Utah.

The City engaged Happy Cities in 2024 to craft a plan to make Main Street a community hub, in turn making the city a more economically resilient and people-friendly place. The proposal provided a list of strategies including a new car-lite design, investments in local parks, new residential and commercial developments, and a placemaking strategy to bring life and vibrancy to the street year-round.
Working with Kimley-Horn Engineering and Voda Landscape Design, Happy Cities identified a comprehensive set of actions to tackle these challenges and cement Park City as an iconic, year-round desination. Park City residents directly shaped the development of this plan. We hosted two engagement sessions to hear community input on the draft plan, and worked closely with the city-assembled Advisory Committee to create a plan that reflects everyone’s needs and aspirations.
Happy Cities wrote and created the Main Street Area Plan, highlighting priorities and investments for:
Residential development
Street design
Parks and open spaces
Regional Transportation
