We’re just getting started! But we are beyond grateful to share that we’ve been recognized as one of the Best for the World™ B Corps for Workers in 2022. To make the list, B Corps must have scores in the top five per cent in one or more of the five impact areas assessed towards the certification.

What does becoming a B Corp mean for our organization?

In short, it means that at Happy Cities, we are legally required to make decisions that support our firm’s social responsibility and sustainability. B Corps go through a rigorous certification process to ensure that a business is making a transparent commitment to achieving high social and environmental performance.

We believe that our responsibilities as a registered B Corp will strengthen our commitments to reducing the environmental footprint of our firm and the communities we work in, to building an ethical and compassionate planning practice, and to creating places that are happier, healthier, and more inclusive.

From the B Lab website:

“B Corp Certification is a designation that a business is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials. In order to achieve certification, a company must:

  • Demonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing our risk review. Multinational corporations must also meet baseline requirement standards.
  • Make a legal commitment by changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and achieve benefit corporation status if available in their jurisdiction.
  • Exhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website.”
