Happy Cities led engagement and development of recommendations for the City of Surrey’s Fleetwood Plan. We conducted focused engagement with an array of stakeholders including community, business and political leaders, and representatives from the Surrey Urban Indigenous Leadership Council to hear their priorities, concerns, and to develop a set of project recommendations.

This project used three online engagement tools to identify strategies to improve Fleetwood’s urban centre: stakeholder interviews, surveys, and a digital workshop. Engagement promotion included posters and lawn signs—innovative approaches at the time—and generated widespread community engagement. Engagement resulted in clear community input, which Happy Cities delivered to the project team, in order to inform land use, active transportation, and SkyTrain impact mitigation plans for the project.
